Thaea Mouratidis called to U15 national team! – August 1, 2018
The Club would like to recognize and congratulate our former player, Thaea Mouratidis, on being called into the Canadian U15 national team for the upcoming 2018 CONCACAF Girls’ U15 Championship to be held in Bradenton, Florida from August 6 -13, 2018. Thaea played her development years with Olympic Flame until she turned 12 years old. Since then Thaea has worked extremely hard and has been rewarded with the call to the U15 national team. Thaea’s accomplishment is even more impressive given that she is only 14 years old! Thaea’s proud father, Jim Mouratidis, also played for the Club as a youth player and long-time coach of Olympic Flame, and her brother, Michael plays on the U13 Olympic Flame Socrates team coached by Jim. Congratulations to Thaea and best of luck at the CONCACAF Championship!

Olympic Flame “Eagles” U10 boys fly at the Mini Robbie! – June 25, 2018
The Mini Robbie Festival, a part of the annual Robbie International Tournament, was held the weekend of June 23-24, 2018. Olympic Flame “Eagles”, our excellent U10 boys team, proudly represented the Club in the 2008 boy’s division at the Mini Robbie Festival and played some fantastic soccer! The “Eagles” not only faced very poor weather but also matched up against two of the strongest teams in the Toronto area in this age group, Dutch Connections Academy and FC Durham Academy. In the first match, the “Eagles” played Dutch Connections Academy, and after a very entertaining and highly competitive game which kept all the spectators on the edge of their seats, The “Eagles” defeated Dutch 4-3. The “Eagles” were down 2-0 after conceding two early goals but fought back to take control of the game and take a 3-2 lead late into the game. When Dutch scored a late goal to tie the game, the “Eagles” notched it up another level and scored a late winner to take the game! The second game of the festival saw the “Eagles” match up against FC Durham Academy. Despite the strength of Durham, our boys were more than up for the task, and convincingly defeated Durham by a score of 4-0! The “Eagles” more than proved that a good club team can still teach the academy teams a thing or two! Congratulations to all the “Eagles” players, coaches and parents for their commitment and hard work in achieving this fantastic result!

Tom Gribilas

IN MEMORIAM
TOM GRIBILAS (March 11, 1940 – June 5, 2018)

cross

It is with great regret and sadness that Olympic Flame Soccer Club announces the passing of its president, Tom Gribilas, on June 5, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Tom was one of the founders of Olympic Flame Soccer Club and was our president for the last 33 years. He was also involved in the creation of the Central Soccer League and sat as that league’s Discipline Chairman for the first 2 years of its existence.  Tom was a pillar and a fixture of the Scarborough soccer community for over 40 years and was a respected long-time Director of the Scarborough Soccer Association.  He was without a doubt the heart and soul of Olympic Flame Soccer Club. Tom tirelessly and with little fanfare volunteered an incredible amount of time to the youth of Scarborough and East York and the sport of soccer for over 40 years.  Tom touched the lives of many children who grew up playing soccer for Olympic Flame Soccer Club, including not only his own children but his grandchildren as well.  Tom’s dedication to the sport of soccer and the youth of our community is truly unrivalled. Tom was a fixture at Ellesmere Park each and every summer, regularly overseeing the house league from Monday – Friday throughout the summer.  Tom also oversaw the successful competitive division of the Club, with teams for kids from 7-18 years of age in the top leagues in the Toronto area.  Under Tom’s guidance, our Club has won many league titles, tournaments, and has previously won provincial and Canadian championships.  And Tom volunteered all of the time he committed to our Club and the youth of Scarborough. His larger than life personality, generous nature and big smile will be sorely missed at Olympic Flame Soccer Club, by his many friends and family. The remainder of the 2018 outdoor soccer season will be played by each of our teams in loving memory of Tom. May he rest in peace.
