Olympic Flame “Ares”, our excellent 2003 U13 boys team, travelled to Peterborough on Father’s Day weekend, June 18-19, 2016, to participate in the Peterborough Challenge Cup Tournament.  “Ares” put together a great run at the tournament, and put on a fantastic show of teamwork.  Each and every player elevated his game to the highest level we have seen.  The boys showed off terrific and advanced passing and attacking soccer, and a stifling defence allowing very few chances.  “Ares” was able to dictate the pace of each game from the opening whistle.  “Ares” finished the round robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating Kingston Clippers 3-0, Brantford Galaxy 2-1 and Belleville Comets 2-1.  “Ares” met Georgetown in the semi-final and comfortably earned a 2-0 victory, to move into the finals, where 5-0 “Ares” met 5-0 Markham for the championship.  Markham came out fast and hard, but it was “Ares” who broke through first for the 1-0 lead, followed by a second goal in the second half to go up 2-0.  Markham pulled one back with a very late goal, but “Ares” saw the game through to make the final score 2-1 for “Ares”.   After five gruelling matches in the searing heat and humidity (with temperatures in the high 30s) “Ares” claimed another tournament championship!  “Ares” was solid from top to bottom, with balanced scoring up front, and only three goals conceded in five matches.  Great job by all the boys both defensively and offensively!  Congratulations to the “Ares” players and coaching staff for putting everything into the tournament and coming out champs in their first tournament of the year!
